How Should We Focus?
How should we live today as followers of Jesus in light of what we've know about heaven, the blessed hope (rapture), and eternal life?
For Jesus Followers Only
How should we focus in light of 2 Peter 3? Surely there is a difference in how we live when we know God's future plans for us. How should we live today in light of what we've know about heaven, the rapture, and eternal life?
Peter answered that question in straightforward language. There are five characteristics for us to embrace as those who live for Christ in the current time.
We should have a Godward attitude and do the things that are pleasing to our LORD and King and live with an attention toward what is pure. This also demands that we be steadfast and firmly fixed in our faith and it is no time for weakness or cowardice.
We are to be growing in the grace and knowledge of our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ through the will of God and being confident that He who has begun a good work in us will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6).
We are to experience spiritual growth in our watchfulness of prayer. (1 Peter 4:7) Prayer is a necessary part of loving God and living as a member of His kingdom. If we don’t pray, we won’t be people of progress.
We grow through the Word of God (Revelation 22:7) and remember that nothing less than a whole Bible can make a whole Christian
We grow through the work of the Church. As followers of Christ Jesus, we were never meant to seek progress on our own. We are part of a Kingdom community The author of Hebrews pointed out that we we consider one another, we stir up love and good works as we assemble together, continuing to exhort one another as the Day is approaches (Hebrews 10:24-25)
