Names of God
The name of God, as revealed in the Hebrew Scriptures, is YHWH (the closest English equivalents to the Hebrew letters). Ancient Hebrew did not have vowels, so the exact pronunciation of YHWH is uncertain. The vast majority of Hebrew and Christian scholars believe the name to be Yahweh, pronounced /ˈyä-wā/.
There are movements that strongly emphasize using God’s name (and, of course, only the name of God that they believe to be correct). However, there are no biblical prohibitions against using God’s name, nor are there commands that we must do so. Anyone who says that God must be addressed only by His name, YHWH, is speaking without biblical warrant.
Throughout both the Old and New Testaments, God inspired the human authors of Scripture to refer to Him using generic terms for “God” and “Lord.” Beyond YHWH, God chose to reveal Himself using many other names and titles. So, clearly, using God’s name is not required.
YHWH is as close to a personal name as God has revealed to us. The Divine Name was revealed to Moses and was unknown before his time: “I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name the LORD [YHWH] I did not make myself fully known to them” (Exodus 6:3).
The name YHWH seems to refer to God’s self-existence, being linked to “I AM THAT I AM” in Exodus 3:14. God told Moses that “this is my name forever, the name you shall call me from generation to generation” (Exodus 3:15; cf. Exodus 15:3).
All other “names” for God, such as El Shaddai, are probably titles, rather than personal names, strictly speaking—although it is quite proper to address God by His titles. References to “the name of our God” (in Psalm 44:20, for example), are oblique references to God’s personal name, YHWH.

God’s personal name given to Moses. Also called the tetragrammaton (“four letters”). Occurs about 6,800 times. Translated “LORD” in English versions of the Bible, because it became common practice for Jews to say “Lord” (Adonai) instead of saying the name YHWH.
A 16th century German translator wrote the name YHVH (YHWH) using the vowels of Adonai, because the ancient Jewish texts from which he was translating had the vowels of Adonai under the consonants of YHVH. By doing this, he incorrectly came up with the name Jehovah (YaHoVaH.) Pronounced: juh-HO-vah

Life giving: In him was life; and the life was the light of men. (John 1:4)
Often in the scriptures Jesus is called, or compared to, God’s names found in the Old Testament. Jesus would allude to his divine nature by comparing Himself to several names used for God. Here are a few examples of Jesus being compared to God:

The first name mentioned in the Bible is the fourth word, GOD! (Genesis 1:1)
The name of God in Genesis 1:1 is Elohim.
Elohim is found over 2,300 times in the Bible referring to God.
In Psalm 68, Elohim is used 26 times.
The three most basic names of God are El, Elohim, and Yahweh (Jehovah).
In Deuteronomy 5:9, all three names are used. “I the LORD (Yahweh) thy God (Elohim) am a jealous God (El)...”
God wants a relationship with us. See Genesis 17:1-8 and Psalm 91.
At times, things seem so overwhelming that we find ourselves in complete despair. Despair can be caused by financial, emotional, spiritual, or physical hardships. The Bible promises us that if we approach God with a righteous heart (Proverbs 18:10), He will deliver us from out of the midst of our troubles, just like He delivered Hannah and David. Pray and journal to Yahweh-Sabaoth to deliver you from trouble and call on Him for help in your current need.
